Greenshoot was appointed by Creative Victoria to deliver the Sector Consultation and Analysis Services of Respectful Workplaces and Cultural Competency Standards, as part of Creative Victoria’s Organisations Capacity Building program.

The project included two streams of work;

  1. Safe and Respectful Workplaces workstream

  2. Cultural Competency and Engaging with First Peoples workstream

Each workstream involved the consultations and independent appraisal of 95 identified organisations in receipt of multi-year funding through Creative Victoria to review and appraise each organisations performance, standards and existing policy and procedure documentation in regards to each workstream.

A review of best practice resources along with a review of advice from industry was undertaken during both workstreams to develop a maturity model and evaluative matrix that supported these appraisals.

The team for the Cultural Competency phase of work consisted of 50% First People’s Representatives and was led by Rueben Berg, Greenshoot’s Cultural Competency partner. The principles and framework for evaluation for the cultural competency workstream was co-designed with, and led by, First Peoples. Greenshoot undertook a process that was centred in evidenced-based decision-making, a robust, transparent, sensitive and exemplar process that was generative and not punitive to provide organisations with recommendations as to how they might strengthen their approach to both Safe and Respectful Workplaces, and Cultural Competency and Engaging with First Peoples.
