What the Client Needed
The Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning sought the support of Greenshoot Consulting to initiate a bold aspiration to enhance the student
experience and delivery of programs by incorporating Indigenous Design Competencies across its academic programs.
The first step in this process was to create a program to support Excellence in Indigenous Cultural Design Competency by developing a suite of discipline based learning modules for new and current staff.
What We Did
Greenshoot developed a project design approach that maximised opportunities for Indigenous leadership, decision making, participation in delivery and visibility throughout project phases. Of equal importance, success in this project was intrinsically linked to the initiation and deepening of relationships with Traditional Owner groups that make up the Kulin Nations, establishing a culturally safe space to foster the connection of people and place.
Over 130 stakeholders were engaged throughout different phases of this project over two years.
The Outcome
In 2019, Greenshoot launched the Indigenous Cultural Design Competency modules to be completed by all Faculty staff. The engagement approach and discipline based learning solution is now regarded as a model for other Faculties at the University.
